Half the internet spent the weekend repeating that Grand Theft Auto VI: An Extended Look runs 20 minutes. At least one major outlet ran the word "confirmed" in the headline.

What Rockstar Actually Confirmed

This part is not in dispute. It came from Rockstar's own Newswire:

1. The date — Thursday, August 27, 2026.
2. Netflix first — the Extended Look premieres on Netflix at 3:00 p.m. ET.
3. Free six hours later — it launches on the official Rockstar Games YouTube channel and the Grand Theft Auto VI website at 9:00 p.m. ET the same day.

That's it. Rockstar named a date, two platforms, and two times.

Rockstar did not publish a runtime. Not in the Newswire post, not on the GTA VI site, not on social. Every runtime figure currently circulating comes from somewhere else.

Where "20 Minutes" Came From

A fan messaged Netflix's customer support chat and asked how long the showcase would run, framing it as a scheduling question. The reply said the showcase would last approximately 20 minutes.

That screenshot was posted to Reddit, picked up by VICE, and from there it spread across the gaming press within hours.

Three things worth knowing before you treat it as fact:

• The agent may not have been a person. Multiple outlets covering the story flagged that the response likely came from an automated support bot. Support bots are known to generate confident, specific answers that turn out to be invented.
• Customer support is not a marketing channel. A support agent — human or not — is not typically briefed on unreleased partner content. Rockstar is the most secretive studio in the industry and does not usually route embargoed runtimes through a streaming service's help desk.
• It has not been repeated by any official source. Netflix's own press materials describe the Extended Look without stating a length. Neither has Rockstar.

Verdict: RUMOR. Not fake, not confirmed. A real claim from a real channel that nobody official has stood behind.

That doesn't make it false — the word "extended" is doing real work in that title, and the Netflix partnership only makes sense if there's something substantial to show. But "would make sense" and "confirmed" are not the same sentence, and the accounts blurring them are the same accounts that told you Trailer 3 was dropping on July 25.

Why the Runtime Is a Money Question

This is the part nobody else is covering, so read it slowly.

If the Extended Look is the last major showing before launch — and every signal points that way — then whatever runtime it has is your entire information budget on how GTA 6's economy works. After August 27, you are buying a $79.99 game on November 19 knowing only what those minutes told you.
