GTA 6 Port Gellhorn: The Broke Region That Might Pay Best

6 min readGTA 6 Money HQ

Rockstar wrote an economic collapse into one of Leonida's six regions and told us exactly what replaced it. Here's why the poorest region on the map may be the smartest place to start.

Rockstar gave five of Leonida's six regions a personality. It gave Port Gellhorn an economy.

Read the official description again and notice what's actually in it: an industry that died, a specific list of what replaced it, and a named set of businesses. That's not scene-setting. That's a supply chain.

Port Gellhorn is the poorest place on the map, and it may be the most useful region in the game for anyone who cares about money.

What Rockstar Actually Wrote

The official description is unusually specific:

Port Gellhorn is in stark decline, and life is hard in this run-down region of Leonida. From the Delights cabaret and the Starlet Motel to the now deserted strip malls and abandoned attractions, there's little here to bring in the tourists, but a new economy is emerging to keep the locals in business. The drug trade has firmly taken hold here.

Rockstar's site copy goes further, calling it Leonida's forgotten coast, and describing the new economy as fuelled by malt liquor, painkillers, and truck stop energy drinks.

Read that back. Rockstar named the collapsed industry (tourism), named its replacement (drugs), and named the three consumer categories propping the place up. No other region description in GTA 6 does anything close to that.

CONFIRMED. All of the above is Rockstar's own published copy.

Every Confirmed Location

Port Gellhorn has more named, visible locations than any region outside Vice City itself. From Rockstar's screenshots, trailers and site materials:

LocationWhat's confirmed
Starlet MotelRun-down motel complex. Appears in both trailers — Jason and Lucia in a room in Trailer 1, Jason fighting a man in the parking lot in Trailer 2
Uncle Jack's LiquorLiquor store in the Crossroad Park Minimall. Trailer 1 shows Jason and Lucia inside, then leaving through the front doors armed
DelightsCabaret venue, named directly in Rockstar's region description
Bocamar BridgeVisible during a high-speed chase in trailer footage
Gellhorn International RacewayNamed venue
Port Gellhorn Pawn & GunNamed location

Rockstar's five official Port Gellhorn screenshots show: the Starlet Motel at night, a railway corridor through industrial structures, two men in a room fitted with grow lights, a package being handed through a car window, a nightclub parking lot, and people gathered around a bonfire.

A grow room. A street handoff. A pawn and gun shop. A liquor store you're shown robbing.

That is a region built out of money mechanics.

Why the Poorest Region Might Pay Best

Here's the argument, and it runs against instinct.

Vice City is the glamour region. Rockstar calls it the sun and fun capital of America, the glamour, hustle and greed of America in a single city. Pastel hotels, white sand, a cruise port.

But glamour districts are where money gets spent. Decayed districts are where money gets moved.

Look at what's actually confirmed in each:

  • Vice City: hotels, beaches, a flea market, a cruise terminal. Consumption.
  • Port Gellhorn: a pawn shop, a liquor store, a grow room, a street handoff, an industrial rail corridor. Production and distribution.

OUR TAKE: if GTA 6's economy rewards moving goods rather than owning glamorous things, then a region Rockstar explicitly built around a drug trade, a pawn and gun shop, and cheap real estate is a better base of operations than the one built around beachfront hotels.

None of that is confirmed. Rockstar has published zero payouts, zero business prices, and zero income rates for any region. But the confirmed contents of each place point somewhere.

The Detail Almost Nobody Has Noticed

Rockstar named the collapsed industry and never explained the collapse.

Every other region has a stable identity. Vice City is glamorous and always was. Ambrosia runs on a sugar refinery. Grassrivers is wilderness. Mount Kalaga is backcountry. The Keys are the Keys.

Port Gellhorn is the only region defined by something that already happened to it. Tourism left. The attractions shut. The strip malls emptied. And Rockstar wrote a replacement economy on top of the wreckage.

OUR TAKE: a region designed around economic aftermath is a region designed for a specific kind of story and a specific kind of work. Cheap property, desperate people, low law-enforcement resource, and an established illegal trade. In GTA terms, that's not a poor region. That's a permissive one.

What This Means for Day One

Four practical points, honestly labelled.

1. It's a confirmed robbery location. Uncle Jack's Liquor is shown being robbed in Rockstar's own trailer. That's about as close to a confirmed money activity as anything gets before launch.

2. There's a pawn shop. Port Gellhorn Pawn & Gun is named. Rockstar has separately confirmed a fencing system where local fences accept most stolen goods at a reasonably discounted rate. A named pawn and gun shop in a region built on the drug trade is worth watching — we broke down the whole fencing loop in our fencing guide.

3. Raul Bautista is associated with this region. Rockstar describes him as a seasoned bank robber always hunting for talent ready to take the biggest risks for the biggest rewards. In every previous GTA, contacts like that unlock the next tier of work.

4. It's a long way from where you start. Jason begins in the Leonida Keys — that's confirmed, and we covered how GTA 6 actually starts. Port Gellhorn sits on the opposite coast. If GTA 6's chapter structure gates the map, this region may not be available immediately.

The Honest Bottom Line

  • CONFIRMED: Port Gellhorn is one of six Leonida regions, described by Rockstar as in stark decline and as Leonida's forgotten coast.
  • CONFIRMED: the tourism economy collapsed and Rockstar states a new economy has emerged, with the drug trade firmly established.
  • CONFIRMED locations: Starlet Motel, Uncle Jack's Liquor, Delights, Bocamar Bridge, Gellhorn International Raceway, Port Gellhorn Pawn & Gun.
  • CONFIRMED in screenshots: a grow room, a street handoff, a nightclub, an industrial rail corridor.
  • OUR TAKE: a region built around distribution rather than consumption is a better money base than a region built around beachfront tourism.
  • NOT CONFIRMED BY ANYONE: any payout, business price, property cost or income rate in Port Gellhorn or anywhere else. Rockstar has published none.

Everyone is planning to start in Vice City because it's the one on the box. Rockstar spent its most specific economic writing on the region nobody wants to live in.
