Twenty soldiers have already signed up. The memo is real. The Army confirmed it.
The 9th Brigade Engineer Battalion at Fort Stewart, Georgia, part of the 3rd Infantry Division, is offering eligible soldiers a four-day pass timed to the GTA 6 launch in exchange for reenlistment. Sign a contract for a minimum of two years (up to six) between August 1 and November 14, 2026, and you get four days off starting November 19 to play Grand Theft Auto VI. CONFIRMED via CBS News, NBC News, Variety, The Hill, Task & Purpose. The Army confirmed it directly.
About 130 soldiers are eligible. As of late August, 20 have already taken the deal. CONFIRMED.
How This Happened
The battalion's career counselor proposed the idea to unit leadership. Lt. Col. Ryan Hodgson, the battalion commander, signed the memo. Lt. Col. Angel Tomko, spokesperson for the 3rd Infantry Division, confirmed it publicly and explained the reasoning.
"The idea was to have a unique incentives program that connects to what soldiers are interested in," Tomko said. "The command team, in conjunction with the career counselor, wanted to get soldiers excited to reenlist." CONFIRMED via Variety, CBS News.
The exact timing of the four-day pass will be coordinated between each soldier and their chain of command, aligned to the official November 19 release date. CONFIRMED via The Hill.
Reenlistment incentives are routine for the Army. Past incentives from the same division have included ceremonies in Anzio, Italy, ceremonies with the Atlanta Falcons, and ceremonies on tanks, helicopters, and Bradleys. The 3rd Infantry Division was the number one division in the Army for retention last year. CONFIRMED via Variety.
This Is Not the First Time the Military Has Targeted Gamers
After missing its recruiting goal in 2018 for the first time in over a decade, the Army began expanding beyond traditional recruiting stations. It launched an esports team focused on Call of Duty and other multiplayer games, sent recruiters to gaming conventions, and built a presence on Twitch. CONFIRMED via CBS News.
The GTA 6 pass is the first known reenlistment incentive tied to a specific single-player game launch rather than an ongoing competitive title. OUR TAKE.
What This Actually Tells You About November 19
A career counselor at a U.S. Army base looked at the calendar, looked at the game, and concluded that four days of GTA 6 is compelling enough to make soldiers sign away two to six years of their lives.
That is not hype. That is a documented, confirmed, real-world measurement of what November 19 means. When the military uses your launch date as a recruiting tool, the cultural gravity of the event is no longer a question.
Analysts project 25 million copies sold on day one. Take-Two projects roughly $8 billion in net bookings for the fiscal year, driven primarily by GTA 6. The game crashed Netflix and Twitch simultaneously on August 27, pulling 1.8 million concurrent viewers for a 26-minute gameplay broadcast.
And now 20 soldiers are signing multi-year military contracts for four days off to play it.
The Money Read
Those soldiers are signing years for four days of playtime. Every hour of those four days matters. The difference between spending them figuring out what to do and spending them executing a plan that is already built is the difference between being broke on day four and being ahead of the entire lobby.
The Extended Look confirmed that money gates the campaign for the first time in GTA history. Some missions require a specific cash amount before they unlock. The police system tracks six separate identifiers and every cleanup costs money. The Criminal Profile can break permanently. Robberies force you to choose between speed and value on every single job.
Four days is not a lot of time to learn all of that from scratch. It is plenty of time to execute a plan you already have.
We are building the Day-One Money Plan and emailing it to subscribers before November 19. It is the plan for making money the moment you load into Leonida, built from every confirmed mechanic, every tested strategy, and every system Rockstar has revealed.
