Three things, and the first is the most important.

1. You are not the boss on November 19. You work for Boobie Ike and Brian Heder. You take jobs from Raul Bautista. You provide security for Petra Navarro. Every confirmed early-game interaction places Jason and Lucia as employees, not owners. The money flows down from these people to you. Understanding who they are is understanding where your paycheck comes from.
