GTA 5 Easter Eggs That Paid Cash — And What Might Return in GTA 6

4 min readGTA 6 Money HQ

GTA 5 hid real money inside its Easter eggs — briefcases worth up to $25,000. Here's every paying secret, and why GTA 6 will likely do the same.

Most people think GTA Easter eggs are just jokes and references. They're wrong — some of them pay.

In GTA 5, Rockstar hid real, collectible cash inside its secrets: briefcases worth thousands, scattered underwater and buried in the map. Players who knew where to look walked away richer. Players who didn't swam right past the money.

If GTA 6 follows the same pattern — and Rockstar almost always does — then knowing these secrets on day one is a genuine money method. Here's every paying Easter egg from GTA 5, and what it tells us about GTA 6.

The Hidden Packages: Free Briefcases of Cash

CONFIRMED — GTA 5 fact.

GTA 5's single-player map hid 12 Hidden Packages — glowing briefcases stuffed with cash. Each one paid out between $7,000 and $25,000, no mission required. Just find it, grab it, keep it.

Most were underwater. 11 of the 16 total cases sat on the seabed, often needing scuba gear from the Sonar Collections Dock to reach. A few of the standouts:

  1. The submarine wreck off Pacific Bluffs — $25,000, sitting on top of a ruined sub next to the entrance hatch. The single biggest fixed stash in the game.
  2. The eastern Paleto Bay crop duster$8,000, on the ocean floor under a wrecked plane, in shark-infested water. Risk and reward.
  3. The destroyed plane off Lago Zancudo$12,500.
  4. The Los Santos docks seabed$11,000.

OUR TAKE: the underwater theme matters for GTA 6. Leonida is Florida — the Keys, the coast, the Everglades. That's more water than Los Santos, not less. If Rockstar hides cash the same way, GTA 6's map may have even more underwater money than GTA 5 did.

The Altruist Cult Payout: $100,000 in One Spot

CONFIRMED — GTA 5 fact.

The single richest Easter egg in GTA 5 wasn't underwater. At the Altruist Cult camp in the mountains, after a specific Trevor mission triggers a shootout, four briefcases spawn — $25,000 each. That's $100,000 for clearing one camp and checking every cabin before you leave.

OUR TAKE: this is the template to watch for in GTA 6. A hidden location, tied to a story beat, that dumps a huge lump sum on the players who know it's there. If GTA 6 has a Leonida equivalent, it's exactly the kind of thing that belongs in a day-one money plan — and exactly the kind of thing most players will walk past.

The Random-Event Briefcases

CONFIRMED — GTA 5 fact.

Beyond the fixed stashes, GTA 5 spawned money as random events across the map — a wounded man guarding a $25,000 briefcase in the Chiliad Mountain wilderness, armored-van crashes, ATM robberies you could interrupt and loot.

OUR TAKE: the GTA 6 retail listings already describe "organic random events" generating across the map, tied to smarter NPC routines. If some of those events are cash events like GTA 5's, then simply moving through the world with your eyes open becomes a passive money stream. That connects directly to the phone-feed system we've covered — the map may tell you where the money events are.

What Carries Over to GTA 6 — Honestly

OUR TAKE — pattern-based projection, not confirmed.

Here's the honest math on what to expect:

GTA 5 mechanicLikelihood in GTA 6
Hidden cash briefcasesHigh — a Rockstar staple since GTA 3
Underwater stashesHigh — Leonida has more water than Los Santos
A big lump-sum location (Altruist-style)Medium-high — fits the design pattern
Cash random eventsMedium-high — retail listings hint at organic events
Exact amounts and locationsUnknown — zero GTA 6 data exists yet

What we can't tell you: a single real GTA 6 briefcase location or dollar amount. The game isn't out. Anyone posting "GTA 6 hidden money locations" today is recycling GTA 5 or making it up.

What we can tell you: the pattern is one of the most consistent in Rockstar's history. Hidden money has been in GTA 3, Vice City, San Andreas, and GTA 5. The odds it vanishes in GTA 6 are low.

The Honest Bottom Line

CONFIRMED: GTA 5 hid real cash in Easter eggs — briefcases from $7,000 to $25,000, a $100,000 cult payout, and random cash events.

OUR TAKE: GTA 6 will almost certainly continue this. Underwater stashes especially, given Leonida's geography.

UNKNOWN: Every specific GTA 6 location and amount. Those don't exist until launch — and when they do, we'll map them the same day, tagged and sourced.
